Liberty Cap Shrooms UK

What do liberty cap mushrooms do?
Psilocybe semilanceata, commonly known as the liberty cap, is a species of fungus which produces the psychoactive compounds psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin. It is both one of the most widely distributed psilocybin mushrooms in nature, and one of the most potent.

Psilocybe semilanceata, commonly known as the liberty cap, is a species of fungus which produces the psychoactive compounds psilocybinpsilocin and baeocystin. It is both one of the most widely distributed psilocybin mushrooms in nature, and one of the most potent.

Mushrooms have a distinctive conical to bell-shaped cap, up to 2.5 cm (1 in) in diameter, with a small nipple-like protrusion on top. They are yellow to brown, covered with radial grooves when moist, and fade to a lighter color when mature.

Their stalks tend to be thin and long, the same color or slightly lighter than the cap. The gill attachments to the petioles are appended (fastened) and they are initially creamy before turning purple to black as the spores mature. The spores are dark purplish-brown mass, elliptical, and measure 10.5 to 15 x 6.5 to 8.5 micrometers. This fungus grows in grassland environments, especially wetter areas.

But unlike P. cubensis, this fungus does not grow directly on feces; rather, it is a saprophyte that feeds on decaying grass roots. It is widely distributed in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, especially in Europe, and has also occasionally been reported in temperate regions of the southern hemisphere.

The first credible story of P. The Semilanceata poisoning began in 1799 in London, and in the 1960s the mushroom was the first European species confirmed to contain psilocybin.

Benefits of magic mushrooms

Magic mushrooms aren’t just psychedelic (although they can be pretty good sometimes). Here are five ways magic mushrooms can help your health.

1. Depression

In a 2022 study, researchers analyzed the effects of psilocybin – the hallucinogenic compound found in mushrooms – in 27 people with a long history of depression. Participants received two doses of psilocybin every 2 weeks between August 2017 and April 2019. The researchers found that the participants’ depression levels remained low 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after treatment. While this is good news, the researchers note that more research is needed to explore the link between psilocybin and depression. Specifically, it remains to be seen whether treatments can last more than 12 months.

Messages of public interest:

Do not self-medicate with magic mushrooms. There are other (and proven) methods to help you cope with depression (i.e. online or face-to-face therapy).

2. May help avoid substance abuse

Researchers are now trying to determine if psilocybin can help people quit smoking, drinking, or using drugs.

In one small study, researchers analyzed the use of psilocybin as a way to treat alcoholism. They found that psilocybin helped reduce cravings for alcohol.

In a small pilot study, researchers found that psilocybin significantly improved smokers’ chances of quitting after 12 months. There is also anecdotal evidence that psilocybin can help treat other forms of substance abuse. But we still need more research to prove whether it really helps with cravings and drug use.

3. Headache

According to research from 2017, nerve stimulants like psilocybin can help treat cluster headaches and migraines.

However, one small study indicates that psilocybin can actually cause headaches. The severity of the headaches was dose-dependent, the researchers noted, but the symptoms were neither disabling nor severe.

So yes, the jury has yet to make this decision.

4. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

In an animal study, researchers found that low-dose psilocybin helped facilitate the fear response in rats. This means that magic mushrooms can help treat PTSD and related conditions. But we definitely need more human studies to uncover this link.

In addition, studies suggest that the psychological effects of psilocybin can be unpredictable. It’s also hard to say whether magic mushrooms are a 10/10 effective way to treat PTSD.

5. Worry

While we need more research, it’s possible that psilocybin may help ease anxiety. In a 2016 study, 51 patients with life-threatening cancers were given either very low or high doses of psilocybin. The high-dose group had greater increases in sense of life, optimism, and quality of life. They also had reduced anxiety about death compared with the low-dose group.
